Given that music is actually our alchemist, do we all listen to the same kinds of music? Do we all fall under one musical symphony?
No. The tastes are as varied as they are asynchronous. People listen to music to create a mood, motivate themselves during a workout, or even get inspiration… Could our taste in music convey something about our personality? A study by theHeriot-Watt University researchers, who examined more than 36,000 volunteers from all around the world, finds out that there is a co-relation between us and the kind of music we like. Participants of the study were asked to rate over 104 different musical types as well as provide information about themselves, this is what was revealed…

Pop music fans are hardworking and have high self-esteem, but researchers believe they are less innovative and more anxious.
Despite the preconception that rap fans are more aggressive or violent, researchers have found no evidence to support this claim. Rap lovers too have a high sense of self-worth and are usually sociable.
Country music is out there…
Country music fans are known for being hardworking, conservative, and outgoing. Even though country music is often about heartbreak, fans of this genre are usually emotionally stable. They are also more conservative and have less tolerance towards new things.
Heavy on metal, shy otherwise
Despite the frequently harsh image that rock and heavy metal music portrays, researchers discovered that fans of this genre of music are often polite. They are creative, yet they are typically shy and have low self-esteem.
Indie music, creatively yours!
Indie music fans tend to be introverted, analytical, and creative. Researchers have discovered that they are also less hardworking and gentle. Other prevalent personality traits include passivity, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
Dance music… aka living on the edge
Dance music listeners are typically outgoing and outspoken. They also score well on one of the five major personality traits: openness to new experiences.
Classical music, got us thinking
Classical music fans are usually quiet, but they are also at ease with themselves and their surroundings. They are self-assured and imaginative.
Music such as jazz, blues, and soul? Smart choice
People who appreciate jazz, blues, or soul music are more extroverted and have a high sense of self-esteem. They are also usually incredibly creative, smart, and relaxed.
EDM… everything extra
Electronic dance music listeners are gregarious and gregarious. This is expected, given that EDM is now widely adopted all around the world. Of course, if you plan on attending a few festivals this summer, your outgoing disposition will come in handy.
