With the second wave impacting the country deeply, there is no certainty about the re-opening of cinemas. Actor Mukul Chadda, who will soon be seen in the upcoming web series Sunflower and Vidya Balan starrer Sherni, feels OTT releases are the ideal way forward for the makers amidst the pandemic. “In these times, theatrical releases have been challenged again. I feel that the makers who have decided to release their films on OTT are right,” he said.

Asked if he would want his projects to bag a theatrical release he admitted, “Of course there is a charm about theatrical releases, there is no denying that.”

However, he added “But, it is away above me to take such calls. Also, I like both mediums. These are not things I think about too much. I am certain that makers understand better about where to release and how to market a film.”

The actor is married to Rasika Dugal, who herself is a well-known name in the digital space, and is appreciative of the OTT revolution. He didn’t fail to mention that he enjoys the medium both as an audience and an artiste either.

“The web gives you the luxury to sit at home and watch what you want, at your own discretion. You are spoilt for choices. You have multiple options for the audience to watch what they like, and there are so many more avenues for actors to do what they want,” explains the actor adding that he hopes to “get back to pre-March 2020 world, as the last 15 months have not been normal for anyone.”

In an earlier interview, the actor spoke about being grateful to OTT while clearing that he hasn’t witnessed much of the difference between theatre and OTT.

“The OTT revolution has been terrific for a lot of actors like me. I am eternally grateful to it, and hope it continues for a long time,” he said.

Talking about Sherni, he mentioned “It revolves around the theme of wildlife and its interplay with the people living around it. I enjoyed playing a character who has an interesting relationship with the upright forest officer played by Vidya,” adds the actor.
