The trailer of Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon’s upcoming film Mimi has become the talk of the town ever since its release. In the film Kriti will be seen essaying the role of a young surrogate mother, she also had to put on 15 kg for her role.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Mimi is based on Samruddhi Porey-directed feature “Mala Aai Vhaaychya“, which won the National Award for the best feature film in Marathi in 2011
Now, the actor took to her Instagram to share a video giving fans a sneak peek in the preparation for her role. Kriti talks about her body transformation and says gaining weight for her role in Mimi was tough. She had to force herself to eat as she had lost interest in food.
While for the first schedule of the film, Kriti had to look her normal self with her usual body, the second schedule of the shoot required her to gain a lot of weight to grow in her character. Director Laxman Utekar wanted Kriti to gain weight so that the audience could connect to her portrayal of a pregnant woman on screen.
So, when the film team got together after a gap of two months post the first schedule, Kriti was on a mission to gain weight. She ate everything she could to gain weight.
Sharing the video she wrote, “Gaining those kilosss! Laxman sir told me.. “Mimi, i wanna see your face and believe that you are pregnant “ Being blessed with a good metabolism and normally eating burgers and pizzas in life, gaining 15kgs was a challenge.. I never thought i could do it, and there was a point when I didn’t wanna see food.. but when i saw how it translated on screen, it was all worth it!.”

In a recent interview to a news portal she said,
“We had to shoot the pregnancy scenes and Laxman sir was very clear that it was necessary to gain weight for those scenes because he didn’t want the character to have a chiseled face.Since I have a high-metabolism, I knew this was going to be a task for me. I knew I had to increase my appetite and calorie intake, so I completely stopped working out, even yoga! I used to have poori-halwa-chana as breakfast and sweets after every meal. Though I enjoyed initially, later I had to force myself to eat as I had lost interest in food. In fact, when I used to not feel hungry, I used to eat a cheese slice.”
The actor also revealed how she could not shoot for any other project for some months due to weight gain.
“I had to put on 15kgs in 2 months for Mimi which I could start losing only once I had completed the film. It made more sense to not take up any other project during the shoot and even till a few months after since I needed to lose the weight before starting any other project. I did let go of a lot of award show performances too in that period because dancing makes me lose weight very fast.”
Earlier, Kriti Sanon had also opened up about the storyline of Mimi and said the film has an entertaining take on surrogacy.
“It’s not preachy or serious. It’s not like you are going to watch a film on surrogacy and it’s going to be a documentary film. It’s a very entertaining film, filled with humour, and a lot of ups and downs. There’s a beautiful graph of the woman I am playing, Mimi, where she wants to be an actress.”
Mimi marks the second collaboration of the trio of Kriti, actor Pankaj Tripathi and director Laxman Utekar, after last year’s Luka Chuppi. Kriti and Pankaj have also worked on Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017). Apart from Kriti and Pankaj, it also features Sai Tamhankar, Supriya Tripathi and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles.
Mimi will be released directly on Netflix along with a premier on Jio Cinemas on July 30.
Apart from Mimi, Kriti also has Adipurush, Bachchan Pandey, Bhediya, Ganapath and Hum Do Hamaare Do in the pipeline.
